Discovering Khatoco ecotourism

From the vast wilderness of Yang Bay to the blue waters of Nha Phu Bay, each Khatoco destination boasts its own unique charm. They offer visitors experiences that foster a close connection with nature and local culture, enriching the tourism landscape of Khanh Hoa.

Coming to nature in vast wilderness of Yang Bay

Less than an hour’s drive from the center of Nha Trang, the bustle of the city gives way to a lush, green wilderness. A winding mountain pass leads visitors through a succession of forests to their destination: Yang Bay Tourist Park, an ecotourism site managed by Khanh Viet Corporation (Khatoco) nestled in the mountains of Khanh Vinh.

Greeting visitors at the entrance is an ancient tree revered by the Raglai people as Moc Than (sacred tree). Standing approximately 25 meters tall with a sprawling canopy, its massive trunk is so wide it would take a dozen people to encircle it. Raglai people often pause at its base before heading into the forest to pray for a safe journey, while couples planning to marry come here to make vows. Today, the tree’s canopy is adorned with thousands of silk ribbons bearing the wishes of those who have visited.

In the Raglai language, Yang Bay means "Waterfall of the Sky". It is also the name of the largest waterfall in a cluster of three ones Yang Bay, Yang Khang, and Ho Cho. Rather than plunging down a sheer cliff, the water of Yang Bay cascades gently over successive rock tiers, creating a soft, graceful beauty amidst the mountain greenery. On hot, sunny days, the area around the waterfall becomes an ideal spot for visitors to immerse themselves in the cool, refreshing water.

A day at Yang Bay is filled with exciting experiences: the thrill of crocodile fishing, ostrich riding, bottle-feeding Koi fish, or cheering during a pig race. When legs grow weary, the open-air Ho Cho natural hot spring offers an ideal stop. The mineral water, initially around 55°C and cooled to approximately 45°C after impurity removal, feeds into mineral and mud baths infused with local herbs, offering visitors a relaxing end to their day of exploration.

For families with young children, Yang Bay serves as a classroom without a blackboard. Kids can pick vegetables, catch fish, try their hand at cooking simple dishes under a chef's guidance, or trek along forest-edge trails.

Beyond its natural scenery, Raglai culture adds a unique touch to Yang Bay. Amidst the mountain landscape, the sounds of lithophones and chapi lutes blend with traditional dances, offering visitors an intimate glimpse into the cultural life of the Raglai people. Visitors can also interact with the locals, try playing traditional instruments, and immerse themselves in the distinctive sounds and cultural colors of the region.

Located about 18km north of Nha Trang city center, Nha Phu Bay, home to the Monkey Island and Orchid Island tourist areas, reveals another facet of Khatoco’s eco-tourism offerings. Monkey Island has long been known as a "monkey kingdom," home to a natural population of over 1,500 monkeys. Meanwhile, Orchid Island captivates visitors with hundreds of orchid species vying to show off their colors, creating a vibrant orchid path and grotto amidst the vast waters.

Few people realize that Orchid Island also preserves a mangrove forest spanning approximately 10 hectares, featuring cool green mangrove canopies and the distinctive flora and fauna of a coastal estuary ecosystem. While trekking through the forest or kayaking, visitors can observe crabs, fish, and tiny creatures hiding beneath the water's surface up close—an experience quite distinct from typical island and sea activities.

For those wishing to extend their stay, the accommodation area right next to the mangrove forest offers a rare sense of tranquility. Just a few steps from their rooms, guests can walk beneath the tree canopies, bask in sunlight filtering through the leaves, listen to birdsong, and watch the forest transform throughout the day. It is close enough to truly connect with nature while maintaining the privacy essential for a relaxing getaway.

Tourism development goes hand in hand with nature conservation and protection. Starting in June 2025, visitors are encouraged not to bring single-use plastic items to the islands in Nha Phu Bay. It is a small change, yet a meaningful way for every visitor to enjoy nature without leaving a lasting environmental footprint.

From vast forests to the blue sea wherever nature is preserved and culture cherished, every journey becomes more meaningful. Visitors leave not only with memories of beautiful scenery but also with profound experiences of Khanh Hoa that is green, sustainable, and rich in cultural identity.
