Farmers full of joy with winter-spring rice crop

At this time, farmers in Khanh Hoa province are harvesting the last winter-spring rice fields. Bumper yields and record selling prices have brought joy to rice growers.

According to Ho Huu Phuc - Director of Ninh Da Agricultural Cooperative ( in Ninh Hoa town), this year, the cooperative has 455 hectares of rice production for 1,600 members. The main rice varieties are An Sinh, ML202 and ML48. Thanks to the favorable weather, this year, rice yield reached 72 quintals/hectare, an increase of 5 quintals compared to last year's crop. Not only that, rice is also sold at a popular price of 8,500 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND compared to usual. Therefore, farmers enjoy full joy.

Also being in the busy atmosphere of the harvest, Nguyen Thi Lien - Director of Vinh Phuong Agricultural Cooperative (in Nha Trang City) said that among the 170 hectares of the cooperative, most of the rice varieties were planted with Dai Thom 8 and Trang Nong 15 rice varieties. These are types of rice that produce high-quality, delicious rice grains, so the selling price is higher than regular rice. Not only does the yield reach 70 tons/hectare, this fragrant rice variety is also purchased at the field for more than 9,000 VND/kg, sometimes up to 9,800 VND/kg, an increase of nearly 2,000 VND/kg compared to the winter-spring crop last year. Thanks to high prices and a good harvest, the cooperative's high-quality rice farmers achieved a profit of more than 40 million VND/hectare.

In Dien Khanh district, according to Le Van Hung - Director of Dien Loc Agricultural Cooperative (in Binh Loc commune), with the methodical form of organizing rice seed production, the entire rice is bought by the contracts. This year, the cooperative's 300 hectares of rice yielded up to 75 tons/ha, an increase of 15 tons/ha compared to normal. The average purchase price of rice reached 9,000 VND/kg, an increase of 1,000 VND/kg compared to last year. After costs were deducted, each hectare of rice earned more than 40 million for farmers.

According to statistics, this year, farmers across the province planted more than 19,300 hectares of winter-spring rice, down about 0.62% compared to last year because some rice areas were affected by investment projects. From the beginning of the season until now, rice has grown and developed in quite favorable weather and irrigation conditions, so the average yield is estimated at nearly 65 tons/ha, an increase of 2 tons/ha compared to last year's winter-spring crop. Along with that, the price of rice purchased has also increased. Wherever the rice is harvested, it is purchased on the field, so in general, farmers have a good rice harvest.

Through discussions with leaders of some agricultural cooperatives, the winter-spring rice harvest will end in the next few days. After May 15, the cooperatives will prepare the land and sow the summer-autumn rice crop in early June.
