Khanh Son strives not to be poor district any more

One of the goals set by the Resolution of the 15th Khanh Son District Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, is to strive to soon get Khanh Son out of a poor district. It is expected that by the end of this year, the district will complete the necessary criteria.

Deploying solutions

With ethnic minorities as the majority of the district's population, the rate of poor households is high, and the level of access to scientific and technical applications in production is still limited; infrastructure for production and life is not favorable; enterprises operating in the agricultural sector are not highly effective... These are the district's difficulties in the process of striving to escape the list of poor districts. From that situation, the district has issued a project with the goal of reducing 6-8% of poor households each year; and, synchronously deployed solutions to help people escape poverty based on promoting local strengths.

To support people in household economic development and sustainable poverty escape, in addition to focusing on infrastructure investment, in recent years, the district has promoted its strengths in agricultural production and growing valuable fruit trees. In particular, the district focuses on propagating and mobilizing people to participate in the synchronous and effective implementation of national target programs being implemented in the area. The district focuses on supporting production development to increase stable income for poor households, near-poor households, and ethnic minority households in the area, focusing on building ecological agricultural economic models, circular economy associated with the development of community tourism and experiential tourism. The district has established concentrated fruit growing areas that meet standards for being granted with planting area codes, implementing value chain links, meeting processing and export requirements.... The district has also effectively implemented the agricultural restructuring project and the program to convert ineffective crops to crops with high economic value...

Tran Quoc Tuan - Head of Khanh Son District Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said, criteria such as socio-economic development level of commune-level administrative units and the average income per capita of the district have basically met the criteria to escape from poverty. The district is making efforts to pull the poverty rate down to below 30%.

Efforts to complete the goal by the end of 2024

According to Mau Thai Cu - Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the District People's Council, Khanh Son is one of the two mountainous districts of the province that has received great attention from the Central Government and the province. In particular, the Central resolutions on the province’s development orient Khanh Son to develop quickly and sustainably, becoming a "mountain and forest ecological mini-urban"; Resolution No. 55 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies to develop Khanh Hoa province has a special mechanism that allows the province to focus investment resources on 2 mountainous districts, including Khanh Son. Specific orientations, mechanisms and policies are opportunities and motivation for the district to develop. Therefore, Khanh Son need exploit all potentials and advantages, effectively use all investment resources of the Central and the province to accelerate development, especially focusing on developing high-tech agriculture, tourism... to improve the income and life of each household, thereby reducing poverty quickly and sustainably, removing the district from the list of poor districts by the end of 2024.

Currently, Khanh Son district continues to comprehensively implement 3 national target programs in the area, focusing resources on infrastructure investment for socio-economic development. The district strives to complete the construction and repair of more than 2,000 houses for poor and near-poor households by the end of this year. Along with that, the district also focuses on supporting production development; vocational training, connection, and job creation for people... In the first 4 months of this year, the district has reduced 220 poor households, reaching 40% of the plan assigned by the province. It is expected that by the end of 2024, the poverty rate in the entire district will decrease to 22.99%, meeting the criteria to escape the poor district.

Through recent work with Khanh Son district, Nguyen Tan Tuan - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: To be no longer a poor district by the end of 2024, the political system and the people of Khanh Son district need try the best. In the immediate future, the district need effectively implement national target programs in the area; assign specific responsibilities to each organization and individual, clearly define implementation progress to complete assigned targets; coordinate with relevant departments and branches to remove difficulties and obstacles to accelerate housing support for poor households; research how to implement production development programs such as building cooperatives, teams, groups, and effective production models; research policies to attract investment and promote trade to forward the socio-economic development in the district. The district also need strengthen propaganda to enhance people's responsibility, self-reliance, and determination to escape poverty...
