Over 20 years of establishment and development, Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center (in Dai Cat village, Ninh Phung commune, Ninh Hoa town) has become the largest ostrich breeding center in the country in terms of flock size and quality. Providing quality breeds

The ostrich is the largest bird in the world with a height of up to nearly 3 meters. This is a wild bird breed originating from Africa, now domesticated, adapted to the climate in Vietnam and raised, bringing high economic efficiency. In Vietnam, Khanh Viet Corporation (Khatoco) is a pioneer in developing the ostrich farming industry with 2 large centers in Ninh Hoa town and Quang Nam province. Among them, Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center with more than 20 years of establishment and development is the largest ostrich breeding facility in the country today.

According to Huynh Trung Son - Director of Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center, the center has a total area of 122 hectares with 600 breeding ostriches and 3,500 commercial ostriches; annually providing the market with more than 3,000 breeds, 170 tons of meat and more than 3,000 pieces of ostrich skins for the leather tanning industry. The center has a system of barns and workshops built meeting national standards, water sources, food, and wastewater strictly controlled and meet prescribed conditions. The center's barn system is large and modern, meeting the standards of animal husbandry and food hygiene and safety.

The center has a closed production model, from breeding, egg incubation, commercial ostrich farming, veterinary care... Eggs weighing from 1.2 to 2.2kg, placed in the incubator for 42 days will hatch. Baby ostriches receive special care. When they are young, they are raised in a sheltered house, then taken out into the yard to get used to the sunlight and surrounding environment. This nurturing process lasts about 3 months before they are moved to a larger cage. Currently, Khatoco Ninh Hoa Ostrich Breeding Center is the place to provide ostriches from 7 days old to 2 - 3 months old for farming facilities, with a total of more than 3,000 ones/year.

Diversifying products

Besides providing quality breeds to serve the needs of commercial ostrich farming throughout the country, Khatoco also develops a variety of ostrich products. Most parts of the ostrich are valuable. Ostrich leather is considered by experts to be the toughest leather in the world, 5 times more durable than normal cowhide, and to be used to produce high-end leather fashion products; eggshells, feathers, and claws of ostriches are used to make handicrafts.

In particular, when talking about the value of ostriches, we must mention the meat. The meat of the world's largest bird is known as the "clean meat source of the 21st century". Ostriches have high disease resistance, and do not have to use antibiotics during the breeding process. This bird's diet is rich in fiber, mainly vegetables and grass. In addition, according to the US Department of Agriculture's report analyzing the nutritional content of foods, ostrich meat is low in fat, has a protein content equivalent to beef, and much lower cholesterol content than pork and beef, chicken. It may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, overweight, obesity... Besides, ostrich meat is also rich in iron, very useful for pregnant women, anemic people, suitable for people elderly, helps limit the risk of chronic diseases and strengthens the body's immune system.

According to Huynh Trung Son, taking advantage of the initiative in the closed farming process from breeding - raising - processing - consuming products, Khatoco has promoted the development of ostrich meat products. Khatoco ostrich meat products are certified for to the international standard ISO 22000:2005 by the Food Safety Management System. Khatoco ostrich thigh and fillet meat products are certified by the Vietnam Consumer Protection Association (VICOPRO) as products among Top 50 "Goods and services trusted by consumers".
