Over years, the blood donation campaign has widely expanded by Nha Trang City Women’s Union at all levels, attracting many members and ensuring sufficient blood supply for life-saving emergencies and treatment.

Tran Thi Nhu Hoa has donated blood 36 times.

Giving blood, saving life

Nha Trang City Women’s Union founded the Urgent Blood Donors’ Club with 65 members in June 2010 to provide the safest blood possible for use wherever and whenever it is needed to save life.

Nguyen Thi Le Quyen, Member of the Standing Committee of Nha Trang City Women's Union, Chairwoman of the Club said, “The club members have donated blood many times to save those in critical need of blood in traffic accidents in Vinh Luong Commune (Nha Trang), Khanh Le Pass (Khanh Vinh District)... Besides, when receiving emergency blood donation requests from the Provincial General Hospital, the club contacts members to promptly donate blood to save those in critical need of blood. After 15 years of operation, the club has had 145 members."

Tran Thi Nhu Hoa (Phuoc Hai Ward), who is among the first members of the club, has donated blood 36 times. She recalled receiving an emergency blood donation request to aid victims of a traffic accident in Vinh Luong Commune on February 14, 2019. Without hesitation, she and another member rushed to the hospital that morning, offering their blood to help save lives.

She has also promoted blood donation in many forms such as sharing experiences; posting information about upcoming blood donation sessions to ensure that everyone is aware of the life-saving initiative to join. Her dedication has not only saved lives but also encouraged many others to join the vital humanitarian effort.

“Seeing a baby’s life saved through a blood donation has given me a deeper understanding of the profound impact of this act. Besides, every time I donate blood, I can also benefit from getting informed of my health status. I maintain physical exercise and a balanced diet... to be eligible to donate blood. I donate blood every 3 months,” she said.

Expanding the blood donation campaign

To promote the voluntary blood donation, the Women's Union of Vinh Trung Commune has integrated blood donation propaganda into its activities; and utilized social media such as Facebook and Zalo groups to reach a broader audience. The voluntary blood donation target is included in the annual emulation criteria, reinforcing its importance within the community. Along with the announcement, home visits have been made to personally alert people about upcoming blood donation drives, ensuring greater participation and awareness within the community. The union has also collaborated with the commune's grassroots trade union to mobilize donors whenever a blood donation program is launched.

At the year-end summary ceremony, the Women's Union has honored outstanding groups and individuals with significant contributions to blood donation campaign. Thanks to these initiatives, the blood donation campaign has continued expanding, inspiring many others to take part in this life-saving cause.

Currently, the whole commune has 40 women with regular blood donation, some of whom have donated blood up to 20 to 30 times. In 2024 alone, its members donated 30 units of blood, exceeding 100% of the target.

Phuoc Dong Commune Women's Union has propagandized the advantages of voluntary blood donation among members and alerts people about blood donation drives to mobilize donors. In addition to participating in voluntary blood donation campaigns of Nha Trang City Women's Union, members have also registered to donate blood to the Provincial General Hospital as well as made emergency blood donations 1 to 24 times/person. In 2024, they donated 54 units of blood, exceeding the target by 80%.

According to Dinh Thi Hang Nga, Chairperson of Nha Trang City Women's Union, every year, the union jointly with the City's Steering Committee for Blood Donation launches a blood donation campaign for officials and members. Every year, 350 to 400 officials and members donate blood, giving more than 350 units of blood, exceeding the target (200 - 250 units of blood).

Several localities, including Vinh Nguyen, Phuoc Long, Vinh Hoa, Phuong Sai, Vinh Trung, and Phuoc Dong, have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the blood donation campaign. In the coming time, the Union at all levels will continue promoting the voluntary blood donation and urging more blood donors, ensuring a steady and sufficient blood supply for patients in need.
