49 years of glorious victory in national history

49 years ago, on April 30, 1975, the national flag flew on the roof of the Independence Palace, marking the end of the Vietnam War and the unification of North and South Vietnam and the complete victory of the Ho Chi Minh campaign, bringing Vietnam into a new era of national independence and socialism. That day is remembered as Vietnam’s Reunification Day celebrated annually on April 30.

This historic day, laden with deep national pride and remembrance is a glorious milestone in the national history. The event is also an occasion for not only looking back on glorious history but also expressing gratitude to former generations who devoted their lives to national freedom and independence.       

Over the past 49 years, continuing the remarkable historical epic, under the Communist Party's leadership, Vietnam has steadily pursued the fine ideology of the national independence and the path to socialism; successfully implemented the innovation process to overcome difficulties thanks to the wise leadership of the Party with the goals of national independence and socialism, and achieved significant success in building a happier and more prosperous Vietnam, affirming Vietnam’s position and prestige on the international arena.

The significance of the Great 1975 Spring Victory has been confirmed for 49 years. They include a lesson of building a strong Communist Party, improving the leadership capacity of the Communist Party of Vietnam in the cause of national independence and unification and building a country of “prosperous people, strong country, democratic, equitable, and civilized society”.

It is also a lesson of “Treating people as the root of the country”, persistently maintaining a close relationship between the Party and people in the process of revolutionary revolution and planning.

It is also a lesson of taking full advantage of favorable political conditions in the world in terms of security and movements fighting for peace to create additional strength to promote the national construction and protection.

In celebration of the April 30 victory this year, the entire Party, army and people are making efforts to successfully fulfill key socio-economic development tasks of the pivotal year 2024 and the entire term of 2020 – 2025 towards the Party Congress at all levels and the 14th National Party Congress.

Looking back at the historic victory of April 30, we are motivated to continue promoting revolutionary heroism, self-reliance and great solidarity to overcome all challenges in the process of innovation to build Vietnam to become more and more beautiful and prosperous.

Over 49 years of the glorious 1975 Spring Victory, Vietnamese people have enjoyed the eternal happiness of national reunification and prosperity as President Ho Chi Minh wished.
