Promoting cashless hospital services

The scheme to promote cashless payment in Vietnam in the period 2021 – 2025, digital transformation and non-cash payments in educational and medical facilities in Khanh Hoa Province have been effectively implemented and satisfactory results have been achieved.

The Department of Polyclinic of Dien Khanh General Hospital under Dien Khanh District Medical Center receives 400 to 500 patients a day on average. The digital transformation in hospital procedures, including online registration via Ourhealth app and non-cash payment has helped reduce waiting time and increase patient satisfaction.

“Thanks to the application of QR code-based non-cash payment, I don’t have to wait for a long time. This is one of the 18 medical facilities with non-cash payment solutions applied in the province,” said a patient named Tran Thanh Thuy in Dien Khanh Town.

According to Dr. Le Van Khoa, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health, implementing digital transformation in the health sector, the department has directed non-cash payment promotion at medical facilities. The Department of Health has issued many guiding documents to implement the digital transformation and non-cash payment promotion scheme. In addition, in 2022, the Department of Health coordinated with VietinBank Khanh Hoa to organize a conference to deploy non-cash payment solutions for medical services, including POS, QR code, medical cards and Web/App/Kiosk.

In 2023, 18/18 medical facilities implemented non-cash payment via 3 methods: QR code, banking transfer and POS machine. Cashless payment brings benefits of transparency and convenience, helping reduce waiting time, meet patient expectations and improve patient satisfaction well as prevent disease transmission through direct currency transactions. Cashless payments enable immediate access to healthcare needs.

According to the State Bank of Khanh Hoa Province, 100% of health facilities deployed non-cash payments for medical services in 2023 with VND92 billion of hospital charges through 23,900 transactions.

In addition to the solutions that have been implemented, in the coming time, the Department of Health will direct medical facilities to continue providing a variety of non-cash payment methods for hospital services. For those who do not have banking accounts, the health sector will provide a link with banks to issue payment cards to help them access cashless hospital services; organize seminars on non-cash payment solutions at medical facilities and so on.

The health sector will also continue to strengthen propaganda to promote non-cash payment for medical services, contributing to promoting digital transformation in the healthcare sector in particular and in the province in general.
